17 Aug : Remembering CDs

CDs or the compact discs, have become history long ago, but we must remember them today. On the 17th August 1982, the very first commercial compact disc was produced in the German town of Langenhagen. The first test CD was Richard Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie, and the first CD actually pressed at a factory was ABBA’s The Visitor’s, but that disc wasn’t released commercially until later.

The format was originally developed to store and play only sound recordings but was later adapted for storage of data called CD ROM. Several other formats were further derived from these, including write-once audio and data storage CD-R, rewritable media CD-RW, Video Compact Disc VCD, Super Video Compact Disc SVCD, Photo CD, Picture CD, CD-i, and Enhanced Music CD. We all must have used some or all of these for our data usage purposes.

The invention of the CDs is credited to James T Russell, an American inventor. The digital compact disc, now commonplace in stereos and computers, was invented in the late 1960s by James T. Russell. It was not until 1980 that the first CD player was made; by Russell’s own company.

जिसका Title था  “The Visitors”।
